Getting Around

There are many ways to get around in Aruba.

  • Taxi
  • Rental Car
  • Arubus
  • Bicycle

Taxi

Going by taxi is one of the best ways to get around in Aruba.
It’s hard to find a taxi driver who is not helpful and friendly and there is no taxi meter as all rides are based on a chart issued by the government.

Rental Cars

To get around all parts of the island there are many rental car companies located at the airport and at major hotels. The constant Tradewinds which make the weather conditions so pleasant also have a tendency to give a powerful push when you open your cr door in a parking lot, so don’t be surprised if your rental car has dents all around. Just make sure that they are marked on the rental car form before leaving the rental car agency. We always do a quick cell phone video as we walk around the car to make sure that we don’t get blamed for existing damage. Make sure that your video shows that it was taken at the rental car area.

Rather than shopping the individual car rental companies, a quick click to Expedia will help you find the best deals.

There are also local car rental companies that may not be listed on Expedia. Click here to see some of those.

One word of caution: Book early (ok- two words). In the busiest seasons rental cars sell out quickly.

Arubus

Aruba’s government owned Arubus system is a great way to get around the island. With bus stops conveniently located at all the major beaches and hotel areas, you can hop a ride for $2.60 US and not have to worry about parking or having someone dent your rental car. Drivers will normally give you change just avoid having very large bills.

Retour cards at Awg 8.75 (local currency) or USD 5.00, this card can be used for two trips. But just remember that you must take both trips on the same day.

Day Pass Awg 17.50 or USD 10.00 Valid for one day, unlimited transportation on all the routes of Arubus across the Island.
